Dr Alister Turbayne

Dr Alister Turbayne is a GP registrar training with RACGP, who we will be welcoming to the Village Practice team from 4th February 2025, under the supervision of Dr Mark Melek. Dr Alister will be completing a 6 month placement here at Village Practice.

“After completing my medical degree at the University of Notre Dame Sydney I was keen to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city and moved to the Illawarra to commence my career as a doctor. I completed my foundational years as a junior doctor at The Wollongong Hospital, and in that time have fallen in love with Wollongong for its lifestyle and simple living.

I was born and raised in Canberra and prior to medicine spent many of my early adult years working in a variety of positions including boarding house master, labourer, and pharmacist assistant. Whilst I gained many insights from these roles, my real interest and goal has always been to become a family GP and provide wholistic care for the everyday person.

In my spare time you’ll find me swimming in a rockpool, walking my dog, doing watercolour painting or baking some delicious bread.

I believe the first step in exploring our health concerns is discussing these issues with a compassionate listener. I strive to be that person who actively listens, who never judges, and who enables the building of a strong therapeutic relationship.”
